The Cannon County horses have been rescued,
now they need your help.
Meet some of Almost Home's newest faces! These are just 4 of 84 horses seized in Cannon County just two days before Thanksgiving. All of the horses on this page are currently in foster homes within Almost Home's program. Please take a moment to read a little bit about each of our new rescues.
Although we are excited to be able to find a safe place for these beautiful animals, we are well aware that their needs will be costly. A recent article from petplace.com estimates that on annual minimum basis the basic costs of owning a horse can exceed $1,000. We fully expect these horses will require significant treatment and care, which will mean each horses' expenses could be four times the average spent.

Meet Longshot. She is a 3 year old Spotted Saddle Horse mare who we suspect might be pregnant. She was one of the most critical cases seized by authorities. She is in such poor condition that she needs assistance getting up each day. She is so weak she has no muscle tone and cannot lift herself when she lies down.
She is currently in foster care with Lakota and Hot Shot (below), and each horse must be attended to every two hours. The foster family is doing a wonderful job, and we are confident that their tender loving care will make a full recovery much easier for all of these horses.
Meet Lakota. Lakota is a 5 year old Spotted Saddle Horse stallion. Lakota, like Longshot, will need lots of TLC and care before he is 100%. It will be several months before he will even be strong enough to be altered.
This is Hot Shot. She is a 3-4 year old Spotted Saddle Horse mare, and was also one of the most cruicial cases received. She will need a lot of attention and assistance due to her weakened state. We suspect that Hot Shot may also be pregnant.
She has lesions on her face and body. Hot Shot also suffers from "rain rot", also known as secondary infections.
At this time, we have no way of properly evaluating Hot Shot, Lakota, or Longshot for suitability for training or riding due to their conditions. We will post updates as we see improvement in their health.
Pics coming soon!
Meet Logan. He is a 2 year old Arabian mix stallion. Logan has been handled extensively over the past 3 weeks, and is beginning to trust humans again. While he is severely emaciated, he shows no signs of long term injury or health problems. We expect he has many years under saddle ahead.
