Almost Home was formed by a volunteer who had worked previously under the Animal Relief Fund, an all breed dog rescue based in Williamson County. She saw an URGENT need for a rescue centered around the needs of unwanted pets in Rutherford County, particularly those at our local shelter, Rutherford County PAWS. A group of foster homes and volunteers throughout Rutherford County comprise Almost Home's membership. While Almost Home does occasionally get animals from other sources, the majority of our rescues are those who found their way to Rutherford County PAWS and were not adopted. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Brigid Woodbury, Founder and Director of Animal Relief Fund (ARF), as she taught us what a good rescue is all about!! |

| Meet Belle, Our Newest Rescue | ||||

Friday, August 1, 2008 Today, we got a call for a 9 month old female fawn great dane at a local shelter. So, there was no question in our minds...to the shelter we go to get her. When we arrive we find that she is one sick little girl. She has been preliminarily diagnosed with panosteitis, a painful bone disease in young dogs, and also with aseptic meningitis, a non-contagious neurological disorder. Unfortunately, we think she has a long road ahead of her, starting with a lumbar puncture to test her cerebrospinal fluid for the presence of meningitis. We can ALWAYS use more foster homes. Simply put, more foster homes means MORE SAVED LIVES. We provide all veterinary care and preventatives; we ask that our fosters provide food and water, and LOTS OF LOVE. We also need volunteers for our monthly adoption events. Please email if you can help! |
